As Director of Jazz Studies at Interlochen Center for the Arts, Lawrence is a true maestro in the music world. With critical acclaim and numerous accolades under his belt, he has solidified his position as a preeminent voice among young composers. 

Lawrence's impressive achievements include receiving awards and commissions from prestigious institutions like the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, American Composers Forum, Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, Revive X Metropolitan Museum of Art, Chamber Music America, Come Hear North Carolina, and Festival of New Trumpet Music. His compositions, such as "From the Vine," "Mind Behind Closed Eyes," "Life Mosaic," and "Harlem Suite," have garnered well-deserved recognition. 

With an extensive discography, Lawrence has recorded five solo albums with Posi-Tone Records and two albums co-leading the Fresh Cut Orchestra with Ropeadope Records. He has also contributed his exceptional trumpet skills to Grammy-nominated albums with pianist Orrin Evans' Captain Black Big Band and Smoke Sessions Records. Not only that, but Lawrence's musical prowess can be heard on records by renowned artists such as Boyz II Men, Erykah Badu, Jazmine Sullivan, Laurin Talese, and many more. 

Lawrence's musical journey includes a Bachelor's degree from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, a Master's degree from the Juilliard School in New York, and training under the tutelage of legendary pianist Barry Harris. His passion for music education has led him to his current role as the Director of Jazz Studies at Interlochen Center for the Arts, where he leads the Arts Academy and Summer Camp programs and conducts the Interlochen Jazz Orchestra. 🎉
